👋 Hello Five Dock

A GreenWay along Iron Cove Creek, on Five Dock's doorstep

By Andrew Beeston · Five Dock · 8 October 2026

Inner West Council has named the long-planned path along Iron Cove Creek its second GreenWay, after the first one from Marrickville to Iron Cove opened last December and drew close to a million visits. Iron Cove Creek (the Dobroyd Canal) is the concrete stormwater channel that forms Five Dock's western border with Haberfield. The proposed 3.5km walking and cycling path would follow it from Ashfield Aquatic Centre through Croydon and alongside Haberfield to the Bay Run. Much of the corridor is closed to the public today. Locals in Friends of Iron Cove Creek have pushed for the path since 2020. A masterplan was endorsed in April 2024, and concept design for the middle sections, between John Street and Ramsay Street, started in March this year. The catch: there's no construction date or building budget yet. The next check-in between the residents' group and Council is expected early in 2027. If it goes ahead, Five Dock would be a short walk from a continuous green path to the Bay Run. Would you use it? Hit reply and tell us. Source: Inner West Guide, 22 September 2026.
